The boats operated by Samuel Barlow Coal Co Ltd are generally regarded as being among the most attractive to have worked on the cut. In this evocative series of, largely colour, photographs of the 1950s and ‘60s, the unique style of the company’s craft is amply demonstrated. Taken on the Grand Union Canal, the images also provide an insight into the final era of longdistance commercial carrying by narrowboats.…
