Going back to page 35 of Summer 2012 NB (yes, over a year ago!) I have a print of this photograph and so too – I’ve only recently realised – does Rugby Museum. On asking whether they had any information on the event the answer was a guarded affirmative: Oxford Canal, 1906, Sunday school trip (which had been added in 1960s ballpoint pen on the back). On a search of the Rugby Advertiser files held in the local library I turned up the following in the 28th July 1906 edition: “Braunston. Wesleyan Band of Hope and Temperance Society. In connection with this society a very successful boat excursion took place on Thursday 19th July to Onley Fields by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Harding. The boat started from Braunston Stop at 1pm over 100 being present, including Band of Hope children and a number of friends from Daventry.
