Reader's Letters & Queries: NarrowBoat, Spring 2012

There has been much correspondence about the tug Sulzer in these pages after it appeared in Ian Moss’s article on the Liverpool coal traffic (Spring 2011 NB), but less about Leo. The photograph of Leo in the Winter 2011 edition struck a chord with me, and looking through my photographs I found one of a very similar craft outside Stretford Dry Dock. The hull has the name Leo on her bow but the superstructure is different. Normally I put a date on my photographs but unfortunately I missed this one. Chester Road Bridge is just out of view to the left and beyond it was a works with several laden unpowered craft at the wharf; one of these was Scorpio which is now at the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port.
