Regent's Map

Reader's Letters & Queries: NarrowBoat, Spring 2012

I have a rather strangely constructed map of the Regent’s Canal which I think may date from between 1913 and 1929 (1913–19 seems more likely at present). However I should like to determine this more accurately if possible, hence I am seeking an expert opinion. My map has been constructed from sections (sometimes irregular!) of what appears to be standard 6in mapping of some kind, possibly OS but I cannot be sure. These have been dissected and mounted on linen in a most ingenious way, so as to fold into a rectangular octavo-sized cloth case, which bears the label of Edward Stanford (12, 13 & 14 Long Acre, WC2). The map itself has been annotated with ink to mark various features relating to the canal. When the map is unfolded completely its shape is highly irregular and quite large, fitting in a rectangle 46in wide and 17in deep.
