Genie or Jeannie

I enjoyed reading Euan Corrie’s article about the Hambridge family in the Summer issue of NarrowBoat – most informative and a fine selection of family pictures. My attention was caught by the mention of Genie because I have no record of an L. B. Faulkner boat called Genie. The picture in the article is not clear enough for me to make any identification. He had two Shamrocks – one entered the fleet about July 1912, the other (ex Joseph Pearsall) in May 1922. But Genie – nothing. Assuming it is the latter part of the name that may be identifiable he did have a Jeannie – she entered his fleet in April 1918 ex Power Canal Transport Company. I wonder if perhaps two similar sounding names have been confused. Alan Faulkner, Colchester I am sure you are right, Alan. The name was taken down verbally and Genie and Jeannie do sound rather similar! – Ed.…
