The carrying activities of Seymour-Roseblade were relatively brief and this view of the Leicester Canal from Pasture Bridge looking west shows the neglect setting in during the mid-1960s. One of Seymour-Roseblade’s butties lies against the bacon factory, with the shabby dwelling houses along Heanor Street stretching to Heanor Wharf. Beyond that is the Great Central Railway iron viaduct and just visible in the distance is North Gate road-bridge with North Lock behind. A listing, partly sunken wide-boat is moored at Heanor Wharf. By 1969 the bacon factory and dwelling houses had been demolished, and by the early 1970s the old Great Central Railway line was disused and its viaduct cut up for scrap shortly after.Acknowledgement Thank you to John Hales.…
